Now thats its F2P the servers are a bit bogged up but as a 5year ex-WoW player the wait is very much worth it. Although you do not need a subscription to play it , subscribing has its benefits. As F2P (Free to play) you cannot trade with any players, You are limited to the amount of gold you can obtain, Many Instances (dungeons) are blocked and as you get higher in level some part of the LOTRO World are not accesible.
Honestly its a great way to try the game, If you find yourself loving it then best get the subscribtion. Also in Lotro the crafting and much of the players are a bit more mature then the average WOW Barrens talk.
