It seems through all the series ive been watching that Anime is targeted to children (no offence I still love it) what im trying to get at is there a 'mature' anime/manga for teens/adults under the genre of Fantasy/Comedy/School Life etc

Well, I suggest 'battle-types' of Manga/Animé like Full Metal Alchemist, Full Metal Panic, etc.

well that would depend on what your meaning to mature as in..

Akira movie mature - any teen to adult

Heavy Metal mature - more adult

Fire and Ice mature - adult thinking themed but teen and up



when it comes to anime i make sure i always watch it before my kids. thats pretty much how i catagorize them.

anything that comes on say. adult swim only my 14 year olds can watch, its more the "heavy metal" type.

some of the 8 part mini series i have seen I wouldn't let near my kids, fairly adult and graphic. dont happen here.

now there are movies like, spirited away. which is more the "fire and ice" theme, where it takes a bit more adult thinking to

get the subtle parts of the movie, that my teens and younger dont.

then there is movies like Akira, Ghost in the shell. targeted to teens and adult, but anyone that is a anime fan would never

deprive anyone of watching Akira.

Well then you should watch Bleach or Ghost Hunt, maybe even Samuri X or Ruruni Kenshin.

hellsing ultimate is a very mature anime

only 4 OVAs out as of now, but super gory and a lot of swearing, id nvr let a kid watch it lol

and also Elfen Lied has a lot of action/gore/for some reason a lot of unnessecary nudity haha

Very gory though so don't watch it if you're easily

disgusted.

It has a very nice plot though.

I would say yes, imo.

There not the mass market kid films such as ''hannah montana'' or series that you here kids going on about.

The themes are often quite dark, even though the ratings dont back this.
I think it was the start of princess mononoke with the animal with a spirit pocessing it.

just watch the first show at a pc cafe haha people next to me where like uhhhh.... haha anyways some of the old school is good esp. for english like yu yu hakusho, or the new samurai champloo is pretty good too

Cyber City Oedo 808 is one I thought was good.

I saw 3x3 Eyes recently and that was pretty good.

That was actually the first anime I ever saw.

Saw 1 episode around 15 years ago but downloaded all of them recently. Was quite impressed considering how old it is.

I think it is only the more recent anime that is geared towards kids as the older stuff was a continuous bloodbath.

Well I love anime.. But the only anime I like is the str8 out the of hell hardcore gruesome dark type.. non of that kiddy oh i goto school love story crap.. I like realism... blood.. pain.. lust.. revenge.. nudity(doesnt really matter)... cursing... of course a plot but if there is some nice action i could care less about the story

I hated gantz and had to delete it from my hard drive. It was too slow, didn't really explain much about what was going on, and just all around bad. It was always "oh should I do this so that guy doesn't die?" BLAM he's dead. "OHNOES". Seems like on the anime forums people either love it or hate it.

im LOVING it so far, im on episode 30 right now. im not totally sure about how long the series is though.
i only have the first 3 seasons and the first 2 movies. so i believe its 63 episodes, but im looking for dubbed so its alot harder to find.

251 episodes and still going strong.

Ichiban Ushiro no Daimaou is pretty good. Has lots of ecchi (borderline hentai) and the main protagonist isn't some little weakling. After the first episode I felt like I had to watch more. You can find it on IRC,Torrents, or bakabt (which is where I got it). Here's a little summary:
