Hi all,

I just purchased a Meade DSI II Pro CCD camera for astrophotography and was wondering if anyone has any experience with this kind of photography and could recommend a good photo editing suite that will allow me to build up pictures from multiple exposures and filter out background noise from the pictures. I am generally looking at layering up to 50-100 4 second exposures for near space and 5-10 30 minute exposures for deep space. Also looking at overlaying near space photography onto deep space, ie to take a picture of Saturn for example and overlay it onto a picture of the Crab Nebula to give the impression that it is transiting something that it never passes and to get both parts in perfect focus. My knowledge of digital photography is pretty basic as this is the first digital camera i have bought, got a bit of a soft spot for the old 35mm but my Nikkon F5 has seen better days and i thought it was time to upgrade.

You could try Photoshop.

Hope this helps.

im not sure how you would achieve what you want there? Have you had a play around with the AutoStar Suite Software that comes with the Meade camera? other than that i would say photoshop is certainly one of the most powerful pc apps for layers and photomerging. sounds to me like you probably need to look at something like linda.com for advanced photoshop editing?
