i know i cn just ask google but humans are better i just want to know just to know, right now im using xpservicepack3 ripoff from pirate bay and have a pentium 3 computer withonly 256ram, if i use linux will it be faster?

Possibly, but an easy and fast upgrade these days would be to add more RAM, in the UK at least I can get a good secondhand 1Gb stick for £10

If you don't want to get a stick of ram(or have an older system with harder to find ram) it quite possibly can run faster. It depends on how you want to go. There are stripped down versions of XP that can run on 40MB of ram. The same can be said for a GNU/Linux system. It depends on how you want to go as you can get decent performance from both.

I'd suggest going with GNU/Linux but that's simply because that's what I use. :p

there's no such thing as "easy version/release/distribution/whateveruwannacallit" of linux.....it's a robust OS, was made thinking almost everything (security, stability, etc) and as u should know there are a lot of distros so if u got 256 and u don't want upgrade it u should know that linux is capable of getting those 256 use it and part of the swap it will create (swap partition made in the HD to be used when ram is full) but if you want a "lite" version of linux try puppy linux ( http://www.puppylinux.org/ ) or you can also try slax (very powerfull) ( http://www.slax.org/ ) or try dsl (damn small linux) ( http://damnsmalllinux.org/ ) ......those got a mini kernel very lite :) and you should know that it means it maybe wont have drivers 4 ur hardware or maybe u're lucky....anyways good luck ,,,,I hope this helped

Try going using this unetbootin. You can dl different flavs of linux to livecd to use and play with without wiping your hd. I prefer mint myself easy install and works out of box. But you may want to try DSL for your setup.
