PP asked me if I could share my settings for smudging and of course it's nice to share

Here you can see the usual settings I use for different default photoshop brushes. Usually I use the leaf brush (noticeable as Ma'am fae said ) and also the + brush and sometimes a grungy one. You can make use of any size you want but for me, I ,most of the time, make use of 20 to 50 px brushes.

Most of these settings were experiments so I suggest you do the same. Smudging would look good if you make use of a small size brush (usually below 30px or 40px) and then sharpen it or maybe make use of Topaz DeNoise then Topaz Sharpen in the Topaz Vivacity Filter.
