http://www.securemac.com/

the only mac site i know of dedicated to these sorts of things and actually updates itself

though take everything they offer and review with a grain of salt as i don't even see little snitch listed on there

groon you have any alternatives to this one?

No, there may be more sites like this, but that's the only one I'm aware of.

I don't even have an anti-virus program on my computer, although I do have that trojan removal tool. I've run it a couple of times but it's come up empty.

The only real security measures I take are using a firewall for incoming stuff, and Little Snitch for outgoing (nothing to do with Virii, just to keep apps from phoning home).

mine came up empty too groon..thought it better to be safe than sorry tho.. i have no clue what is happening in that email account then, very strange. i just checked the firewall and it is allowing all incoming!! should i change this to only essential services or the third option. thx again.

It may not be a problem with your computer. Something similar happened to me a couple of years ago, and it turned out that someone had hacked the server and was sending spam from the accounts there.

I have my firewall set at the 3rd option, "Set access for specific services and applications".

The Mac doesn't have any viruses so why slow your machine down with software you don't need?

No-one in our family have antivirus on their Macs - we've got two iMacs, one Powerbook and and a tower Mac. Never had a problem.

Zeb, there are virii and trojans and rootkits for macintosh systems, it's just they are typically not distributed widely or through emails, different OSes are targeted different ways, macs, a good option would be pirated software, for windows, it's email, ims, websites, software, music, just about anything a022.gif

doesn't mean there aren't any, just they are less targeted

basic rule of thumb for a mac is....if it's a .exe file, you're safe wink.gif
