For alot of torrent users this is common knowledge, but for the newer users who dont know......
lets get you up to speed!
*note* Torrent clients vary so some steps might be a little different I use Azureus thus these steps Azureus users should find on point.
*note* Some sites do not like these practices and some seem not to care either way. But its up to you to differentiate. Most important dont due anything to get yourself or the one who invited you banned. so make sure you are aware of the sites rules. (as with any private site)
Lets get started.....
Ok you just got your invite code from someone to a private tracker. What do you?
Activate? Register? Set up your profile? Read all the rules and faq's? Find a torrent you like so you can become involved within your new community?..... WRONG!!!
Whatever it is you do, dont download a thing!... "Hunh?" you say, yep thats right dont be tempted, not one single byte!
I will explain 2 ways to build a good ratio, and they both involve patience. I know them to be called.....
1. Partial seeding (Best to get your ratio up)
2. Outside seeding (Best to get your upload amount up)
Some sites have wait times in wich if you havent uploaded a certain amount you are required to wait a certain amount of time before you cant start downloading, torrentleach is one such site. wait periods vary and are dependent on upload amount and ratio.
The first way to get past that nasty wait time and easiest way to start building your upload amount is called "Partial seeding"
Partial seeding is very simple to do....
First download a particular torrent of your choice preferably one with alot of leechers, most obvious on new torrents, avoid older torrents for the obvious reason, there are not enough leechers to get this going.
Second open the torrent in your client and in that window you will see all the pieces of your torrent

Then "select all"

Then "unmark selected"

Then manually check a box, any box (this indicates a piece of the torrent)
*NOTE* I would choose an actual rar file, choosing samples also works but sometimes people dont download the sample therefore minimizing your chances to seed to them. On the other hand sometimes people download the sample first to check out a release, its your call on that.

click "OK"
*NOTE* While partial seeding the site will show you as leeching, this is because you dont have the "completed" torrent. But your ratio will still continue to rise.
Thats it to partial seeding!
Outside seeding.
This is where you have downloaded and completed a torrent from a tracker, private or public, and you then seed back to more than one site.
This works best on torrents that are "scene releases" and are uploaded to multiple sites, in fact do not be tempted by music, apps, or specialty torrents like "e-books" or other such torrents as they are unique & not as mainstream in general and will not give you the desired results.
Start with completed torrents you are currently seeding, check to see if you have anything that your new private tracker also has,
lets say you just completed "Fast.and.Furious.R5.LINE.XviD-COALiTiON" from TPB and have been seeding.
Go to your private tracker and do a search for the SAME torrent, the best way to do this is to copy and paste the torrent name into the search box.
You know the tracker has the same torrent (because you checked first, and while you are there you downloaded the torrent as well), so you know you can seed it there.
*NOTE* The torrent must be identical in size, parts, etc.(hash numbers do not have to match)
After you are sure that all matches up and that they are indeed the same torrent, and after you have downloaded the torrent file from the new tracker.
you are already half way there.
Next open the new torrent in your client in "seeding mode"

If the text in "files in torrent" window turn red you dont have the same torrent files. make sure they dont turn red! if they turn red this will not work

CLICK "OK"
After clicking ok you will see this window pop up warning you or advising you that the files already exist, this means you have done a good job.

CLICK "OK"
Now your seeding the same set of files to bother trackers and on your way to building your upload amounts and getting started off with a good ratio.
I cant stress enough that a "hit n run" is never good, always give back what you take. Always use good file sharing and p2p etiquete.
Thanks for your time, peace!
