I didn't come very far in that tutorial. After choosing all (wrong?) sources it's stuck downloading, had to abort after an hour. Evers since my response times are that of an ninety year old woman on crutches. Any suggestions?
steviweavi
no problem really, just open Blocklist manger then Tools > Options ... highlight Sources, you should see something like this:

only use the ones I've selected and you should be ok.. if you're still struggling come back here.

Okay here is what I did and it worked out GREAT!!!!

Open BLM

Go to Tools -> options -> sources

Check the sources against steviweavi jpeg using the enable button on the bottom.

When they are all the same click OK.

Go to file -> process blocklist it takes about 15-25 min. after that is complet you will see a list in red.

Go to convert

When it opens use the convert output down arrow to select " eMule/cDonkey/IPFilter.dat"

This will convert the list to a .dat file. *make sure listview is selected* and name the file ipfilter.dat

Then click save as, a drop down menu will appear put the file in the utorrent directory folder

ie: c:/document settings/user/application data/utorrent user is the person logged onto the computer.

Saving the file will take anothe 5-10 min the file size is 8-9 megs.

Thanks for the help this works great. Eventhough it took a while to figure out,

That downloaded file nipfilter.rar.gz was corrupt ! ????

Peace,

freaknasty overrun me (had to take a catnap) but it sums it up. After not choosing all the sources everything went just fine like he described it. You can see if it worked when u close utorrent and open it up again in the protocoll.

After doing all this and knowing now that it doesn't work automatically anyway, I just ask myself why go through all that (even once its downloaded, installed and configured properly it just takes tooooo long), if the only other thing we'd have to do is to download the dat from a website, extract it, rename it and put it into a foulder. It's that much easier. I guess I stick to that.

Thanks to steviweavi that put me over my hurdle. After that it wasn't that complicated at all.

Guys....BLM should update from the bluetack servers in less than 2 minutes on a bad day.....about 30 seconds on a good day.

Make sure you have the two listview checkboxes unchecked , that will speed it up beautifully!! They are a waste of resources. They are at the bottom of the front (General) page of the Options window
Cheers

thanks !

sorry to bring up an old topic but, how often should i recompile the list and import to PG2?

erm, i use utorrent 1.7.5...... i've heard bad things about it..... should i switch?
Sp4
there's no set update timing as the lists are updeted as and when i update every 3/4 days(if i remember)

and as for µtorrent it was 1.7.1/2 that was giving the results, ive not heard anything about anything later than that

I dont get any sources.
This is what I get at the bottom of my screen:

Ready.
Retrieving source list...
Source list downloading...
:: Error occurred while requesting URL. The page may not currently be available.
Source update complete. 0 new sources, 0 removed sources.
Ready.

Is this URL down? I dont get it. I even registered at Bluetack and that was possible.

What am I doing wrong?

It works as far as I cannot enter www.riaa.com (as the Torrent Bible says), because I converted the nipfilter.dat into guarding.p2p and imported it into Blockmanager.

I must be missing something. What can it be?
Sp4
It's working at the moment, is your firewall blocking BLM?

Thanks Steviweavi and Freaknasty. Your painstaking walkthrough did the trick for me. Working as you said.

sorry to post in an old topic but when i follow this ......

Go to file -> process blocklist it takes about 15-25 min. after that is complet you will see a list in red.

there is nothing there, i go through the rest of the processes mentioned so has this worked, it stated it would take about 15-25 mins, mine took about 45 seconds
Sp4
hi deadone, have you clicked the sources button?

Then enabled them in the options pannel?

yes_no_maybe?
The 20 main lists are already in Pg2. All you have to do is go to list manager-add, then in the URL scroll down box you will see all the lists just select each one in turn and give it a description, once you have done this for all 20 tick the boxes beside the lists you want to use and your away. It will update as normal.
I think that BLM might have extra lists for the really paranoid but 20 is enough for me, I don't block Microsoft because I don't pirate off them and find there sites can be useful but each to his/her own.

*don't forget to set each list to block/allow, depending on your preference.*

hi,

after a long day trawling the forums, can i get a quick yes or no answer as to what i have done....

been running utorrent with pg2 for a long time, thought it was about time to check im still blocking all the right stuff.
DL'd BLM and ran as described to get current lists, then converted to .txt file and put in list file in PG2 folder.
then ran PG2 and added newly made list (was 15 meg in total).
now running 23 lists for blocking.

seems to be blocking new ranges ok.......have i done this right? got lost on bluetack forum looking for confirmation of tutorial.

thanks in advance

what should the file extention be in the PG2 list file .txt or .file? sorry first time compiling own list.

Ok, I read a tutorial to load blocklist to work with Azurerous (sp) using peer guardian. WOrking like a champ. My question is how often do I run the Blocklist? Do I need to run it in the background? SLows things down. Or should I run it once a week or so to keep it up to date. How long will this take?

Thanks
Sp4
up to you, 3/4 days a week!
DaveH
I think I did everything ok. I created the dat file then put it in the folder in azureus using %appdata% then appeared C/***/AppData/roaming and I put the dat file in the azureus folder. I have not put it in any other folder inside. The file size is 10.5mb.

Edit: I'm using vista.

thanks! this is better, imho, than having 2 or 3 apps doing the work.

curious though? is it necessary to have PG2 running in addition to a firewall, or will PG2 work in place of a firewall?
i'm currently using Comodo Pro... but if I could ditch that and just run PG2 that'd be great too.... better on the system resources too.

Kind of confused. Why are you know blocking the edu and BOGON ones. I've looked at other places and the edu's were highlighted. Also what about the bottom one marked Trojan?

The bluetack lists no longer include a trojan list
