for people that are new to ps, this way you can also make gif files, just open a picture, go to animation, duplicate the layer and hit tween, then you enter the amount of frames, and then edit evry frame :)

Thanks

I haven't tried editing any animated gifs in CS3 before, just the ones I made in CS3 from scratch, using the PSD, so this will help tremendously if I ever want to!

Well it helps to extract images from gif files,
I recently used this gif files to make a sig.

Think the most gifs Ive used in a sig has been 10.
The problem with this is that it doesnt import it as a transparent background so the rendering has to be spot on, and if youre using one thats fast with alot of frames it becomes very difficult (and boring lol)

if it's an animation with only a few frames, I will open it in Ulead Gif Animator 5, save the image frames to individual PNG files, and then just add them in CS3 as my layers, and make frames from layers in the Animation pane
edit:OR
just save the animation as a PSD using Ulead Gif Animator 5 and then open the PSD in Photoshop and make frames from layers in the Animation pane

^^^^^^^^IMHO its a lot easier importing gif files to photoshop & then editing it.

The method you use looks like a lot of work

yeah doing the individual frames would take longer (unless it's just 5 frames or less) but for some people it would be easier
I just noticed that Gif Animator 5 can save in the PSD format, so all you have to do is open the gif with Gif Animator, save as PSD, open PSD in PS, and make frames from layers... no background removal necessary... I'm actually glad I found that

they discontinued Gif Animator, the last version was 5.5 I think

hmm... the only demerit of photoshop import function is that it dose not support transparency, I'm downloading it at the moment!
Thanks again Jason for the helpful tip.
