I use Mint as my distro. It is Ubuntu based. Never really liked Ubuntu itself even though it works. Mint has always worked right out of the box. Too much tweaking necessary when I try other distros. Transmission comes default with Mint and Ubuntu. Is there a better package? I have no problem with using a KDE app vs. gnome if it is better.

Hi Deluge is in the Ubuntu repos, and in mint just open terminal and "sudo apt-get install deluge" It is very lightweight and full feature client.

I agree ^

yes i hear deluge is the bees-knees (good a022.gif ) but i haven't yet tried it myself
tqw
yes deluge is good but I also here good things about Ktorrent

I also use mint and have tried several , utorrent, bittorent, ktorrent, and vuze. I am currently using vuze with classic interface. Works very well for me. I have an HP mini 1000 with 8gig SSD and 2gig mem with wifi. My sppeds are usually 110-500kB/s down and 110-300kB/s up.

personally i've been a debian user for a while now and have stuck to the default package of Transmission, it's lightweight, deffinitly not a resource hog, and fairly easy to use, however if you are going to be using KDE and not Gnome, then i would suggest KTorrent.

Maz is right, Deluge is the Bee's Knees

thats the fun part for me ... I learn something, but thats me!

deluge is good, but it can run into odd behaviors
if not for those I'd choose it
transmission & ktorrent are reliable
but have not been the fastest for me
utorrent in wine is good, if yoou use wine
right now qbittorrent is my favorite
its considerably faster than
transmission & ktorrent [for me]
as it has more dht connections

I also use Deluge, it's user friendly and almost as fast as my utorrent running in Win7. just do the usual port forward through your router for better gains in download speeds.

Another option which works well for me is running utorrent through wine. I am now having issues with Deluge saying no incoming connections so currently using utorrent again.

Apparently uTorrent is getting its own Linux version. Personally Ive never needed anything more than Transmission.

Yes, uTorrent is getting a Linux port. I'm sure it'll be more feature full than the Mac port :).

For me I liked using Transmission. I don't like KDE apps on Gnome so I don't use KTorrent religiously.

I've started looking into rtorrent.

i have been using ubuntu for a while now and my personal favourite............DELUGE

rtorrent is pretty decent. It just bugs me that it has to do all the hashing when it starts, other than that it's pretty good if you're comfortable using the shell, and if you don't mind the absence of buttons, bells and whistles of a gui.

Deluge for me as well. Transmission was fine to be fair, but I just prefer Deluge. I've had good u/l and d/l speeds from it (up to 1.5mbps and 200kbps respectively) and it's pretty lightweight, although probably not as much so as Transmission. I was going to run uTorrent through Wine, but got Deluge and decided against uTorrent, although if a Linux version is released, i'll at least try it out and compare
